Is Katee Sackhoff Being Eyed For Captain Marvel?

Avengers assemble! Marvel is looking to expand its arsenal of superheroes, or rather, superheroines in their films! It looks like the next badass female might be none other than Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel – and there are rumours that Katee Sackhoff is in talks with Marvel for the role.

Sackhoff recently commented during a Schmoes Know podcast that “there’s been some stuff going on [with Marvel],” but nothing is set in stone at this point.

Marvel director Louis D’Esposito recently said that the company would like to put out a female-led superhero film; believing that it is time for some “change” in the roles the superheroes play. The Marvel director is keen on making a movie with a female lead character and he specifically mentioned that Katee Sackhoff would make a great Captain Marvel.

Though it seems everyone is on board for a Captain Marvel flick, things may be a bit more difficult than that.

“It’s hard, because we have a small group at Marvel. We do two films a year. To get those two films done and to do them right takes a lot of work and manpower. And female-power, obviously. To add a third film and to just put it in the slate right now is difficult. We have these next three, four, five films coming out and that’s what we’re really concentrating on,” D’Esposito said on the matter.

There is also the matter of Sackhoff’s schedule. She is currently starring in Riddick with Vin Diesel, so finding time to film for a potential “blockbuster” would be a challenge.

They are currently looking into her availability in early 2014, when, coincidently enough, production is expected to start for Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

According to SciFiNow, the odds of Captain Marvel making a huge impact in Age of Ultron are slim due to it, “being intimately connected with Marvel’s cosmic characters.”

They don’t dismiss the possibility of a cameo from Carol Danvers though, “laying the track for a Captain Marvel spin-off movie and a larger role in Phase Three and later Avengers movies

Wouldn’t it pretty great to have the woman who was Starbuck play Carol Danvers? Give us your thoughts on the latest Marvel rumour!
