The first trailer for the hotly anticipated Captain America: Civil War debuted during Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday night (November 24) and it looks absolutely amazing.
The release of Captain America: Civil War will launch Marvel into Phase 3, and if the first trailer is any indication, it will do so with a bang. Carrying on from the post-credits Ant-Man scene, the trailer starts off with Captain America, as played by Chris Evans, and Falcon, as played by Anthony Mackie, questioning Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier, played by Sebastian Stan. As it turns out, the government has started to view superheroes who operate outside of government control as vigilantes in need of regulation and control. Surprisingly, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) agrees with the need for government supervision, whereas Captain America does not. Captain America seems to be driven by a need to protect his old friend, even at the cost of destroying new friendships. This disagreement ultimately splits the heroes, who wind up fighting each other.
Trailer highlights include Bucky and Captain tag-teaming Iron Man; the first glimpse of Black Panther; an amazing shot of Black Widow, Captain America, the Winter Soldier, and Falcon; and what might be my favourite line in a Marvel movie:
Do you really want to punch your way out of this?
In addition to Captain America, Falcon, and the Winter Soldier, the film features the return of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, Don Cheadle’s War Machine, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlett Witch, and Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye. It opens in theatres everywhere on May 6, 2016.
