Two words was all it took to send fans of NBC’s Community into a Twitter meltdown, a good meltdown that is. DAN HARMON. The official Twitter account for the show tweeted these two magical words a short time ago, confirming once and for all, and ending weeks of speculation and rumour, that the show’s ousted creator and showrunner will indeed be returning.
You’re probably thinking that you’ve read this before. Yes, I have already posted two articles about the return of Dan Harmon. The first was a wishing and hoping piece, fueled by a slip of the tongue from Harmon himself, suggesting that he had been invited to return back to the show.
The second was posted after Harmon, tweeted “Yes, yes yes! I’m back I’m back I’m back”. Well now, it looks like the deal is done. Sony Television and NBC have confirmed that the show’s creator will be returning in his full capacity as Executive Producer/Showrunner for Season 5.
Also to be confirmed, is the return of Chris McKenna, a key writer-producer who departed the show last May. McKenna will return to serve as an Executive Producer alongside Harmon.
Granted the news doesn’t come as that much of a surprise after Harmon’s admission a week ago, but for fans of the show like me, it is nice to see everything official, confirmed and heading back in the right direction.
As any Greendale Human Being knows, the show’s ultimate goal has always been Six Seasons and a Movie. Now that Harmon is back in control, perhaps that isn’t such an unrealistic target.
Although the day and time are not known yet, Community returns to NBC for a 13 episode fifth season that will air at some point during 2013-2014.
