It appears that Jack Black is seriously looking into being in the Goosebumps film! According to The Wrap, Black is in line to be in the film based upon the R.L Stine book series. It’s also been announced that Rob Letterman will be directing the adaptation.
The Goosebumps series, beloved by young adults everywhere, is the second most successful book series, coming up behind the Harry Potter books. Goosebumps has had 175 books published, and well over 300 million dollars in sales. At the current moment, it has not been announced which of the books is going to be turned into the film.
According to The Wrap’s sources, Black would play “a Stine-like author whose scary characters literally leap off the page, forcing him to hide from his own creepy creations.” Interesting.
If the rumours are correct, it will reunite Black & Letterman who have worked together previously on the hits Shark Tale and Gulliver’s Travel’s. The Goosebumps film is being produced by Neal H. Moritz & Deborah Forte and is being penned by 1408’s Larry Karaszewski & Scott Alexander.
I’m going to take a moment to reflect back on being a child and discovering these books for the first time at a school book fair. This series scared the hell out of me, and I am just DYING to see how they bring Goosebumps to life!
