Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to join the cast of the boxing film Southpaw.
8 Mile rapper Eminem was originally slated to star in the film before dropping out of the project due to production complications.
Southpaw is directed by Training Day’s Antoine Fuqua and follows the story of a left-handed prize fighter who suffers a tragedy after winning a title and must get his life back together to earn the respect of his young daughter.
Recently, Gyllenhaal went public about his audition for the role of Frodo in the Lord of the Rings series, which he claims didn’t go along so well.“I remember auditioning for The Lord of the Rings, and going in and not being told that I needed a British accent,” he said. Unfortunately for him, “it was literally one of the worst auditions” of the bunch.
Despite his Lord of the Rings fallout, his latest blockbuster Prisoners with Hugh Jackman has been a strong contender at the box office since its opening in September.
