James Marsden has been offered the role of Dawson Cole in the film adaptation of The Best of Me, replacing Fast & Furious star Paul Walker after his tragic accident late last year.
The casting process has been both quick and quiet, but after only two candidates remained, Marsden himself and Magic Mike’s Joe Manganiello, Deadline reports that a decision has been made, with Marsden being offered the role.
The Best of Me is the film adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks novel under the same name, in which childhood sweethearts Dawson Cole (Marsden) and Amanda Collier (Michelle Monaghan) are reunited at a funeral after 20 years of being separated, which sparks their old but forbidden romance.
The film was originally scheduled for release in October of this year, but a revised release date is expected to be announced soon.
