Joining the illustrious ranks of actors to sit in the Captain’s chair is Jason Isaacs. Isaacs has been cast as Captain Lorca in Star Trek: Discovery. Captain Lorca may be boldly going where no man has gone before, but Isaacs is following in the footsteps of five great actors to play Starfleet Captains. William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew, and Scott Bakula all captained starships in past 50 years of Star Trek history. Isaacs shared the announcement on Twitter, hoping his new chair is comfortable.

Jason Isaacs has had a long career acting in both film and television, but is most widely recognizable as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter series. More recently Isaacs played the role of Hap in Netflix’s The OA. Until Star Trek: Discovery debuts, Isaacs can be seen in Hotel Mumbai, The Death of Stalin, and voicing Dracula in Happy Family, all releasing this year.

Under Captain Lorca’s command are previously announced co-stars Doug Jones (Hellboy), Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead), Anthony Rapp, Sam Vartholomeos, and James Frain (Orphan Black, Gotham). While Isaacs is the captain of the USS Discovery, he isn’t the only captain in Discovery. Michelle Yeoh plays the role of Captain Georgiou on the starship Shenzhou with her crew of Maulik Pancholy and Terry Serpico. Shazad Latif, Chris Obi, and Mary Chieffo will also have roles in Discovery as Klingons.

Now that the cast seems to be fully flushed out, I can't wait to see the crew suit up and explore the stars. Which cast member are you most excited to see in action? Will Captain Lorca stand up against franchise favorites Kirk and Picard? With Sonequa Martin-Green's character reported to be leading the series, this could take the spotlight off Lorca. Let's discuss everything Star Trek: Discovery in the comments!
