This Thursday, Jay Z and Justin Timberlake revealed their new music video for “Holy Grail”, the opening from Jay Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail. The video, directed by Anthony Mandler, features Jay gliding through an abandoned home and Justin Timberlake belting out the song in front of a car on fire. Mandler is known for his iconic music videos for artists such as Beyonce, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift.
The music video premiered via Facebook’s video player, one full day before it was uploaded to YouTube or any other site. However, the choice to debut the video on Facebook is a bit surprising as Timberlake recently took ownership of MySpace, one of Facebook’s competitors.
”What we’re doing with Jay Z today is really exciting and we think emblematic of the evolution of music and how musicians can connect with their fans,” said Nick Grudin, head of content partnerships at Facebook.
