About a year ago PepsiMAX and Jeff Gordon worked on a video titled “Test Drive.” This video shows Gordon, in disguise, taking a car (and the salesman) for a test drive. Or does it?
Travis Okulski wrote a blog post for Jalopnik, outing the video as a fake. He goes into great detail, showing how the entire video was staged with actors, and even goes so far to say that Jeff Gordon was not the driver.
Gordon and PepsiMAX, in conjunction with Jalopnik, get Okulski to Charlotte, N.C. and into a yellow cab with a disguised Gordon, taking Okulski on a not-so-leisurely drive.
Okulski wrote another piece, this time on his own experience. “I was just kidnapped by an ex-con in the back of a cab that is now speeding down a hill, busting through a chain fence and narrowly missing buildings while trying to get away from a North Carolina State Trooper. I thought I was going to die.” As the blog post goes on though, Okulski describes the chase coming to an end and seeing a garage full of Pepsi, cameras, and the driver saying that he is Jeff Gordon.
What is interesting though is that Gordon and PepsiMAX wanted to get Okulski back for calling them out on an ad that he claims to be fake. What is never addressed is whether the first ad was a real test drive, or if it was staged, and if Gordon was really the driver. Either way, both videos show great driving and hilarious, though probable, reactions to the wild drive.
