Jeff Hong is an animation artist from New York with a big love for the magical world of Disney. He recently designed a set of pictures with all the beloved characters in modern society, facing real-life dramas and showing us how they would be in a fairytale-gone-bad kind of situation.
Just imagine one of Disney's characters, your favorite one, and imagine them leaving among us in this century. The designs depict how dramatic things would be for them. Today's trends would lead Belle to getting plastic surgery, so as to maintain her beauty and Alice would find her wonderland in the world of drugs. How would Ariel survive in such polluted waters? The princesses would not be the only ones affected though, as our little animal friends would be in serious trouble as well. Ratatouille could end up in a lab, Winnie would be left without a forest to live in, Bambi's head might end up gracing a hunter's wall and so on.
So even if a fairytale could actually bring its characters to life, why do it in a world like ours? The sketches showcase a few of the planet's and society's problems, such as ocean pollution, drug addictions, beauty standards, poverty, disrespect towards animal rights etc. How would the Disney characters make a living and thrive with so many things keeping them down? Awareness should be raised regarding all of them and more, in similar vivid ways.
