Has Jenna Coleman Quit Doctor Who?

Reports say that Coleman could be leaving Doctor Who very soon. The actress is said to have accepted the role of Queen Victoria in a new drama for ITV.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Jenna Coleman could be ‘leaving Doctor Who’ very soon.

The actress, who plays companion Clara Oswald, is said to have accepted the lead role of Queen Victoria in a new drama for the BBC’s rival, ITV. The series is said to consist of eight parts and will take £10million to produce.

Jenna, 29, and Peter Capaldi, who plays The Doctor, have apparently filmed her final scenes, which are likely to air in this year’s Christmas special. She is already the longest-serving companion since Doctor Who was rebooted back in 2005 and one of the longest in the show’s overall history. She first appeared back in 2012 opposite Matt Smith and has played a host of other ‘versions’ of Clara, as part of ‘The Impossible Girl’ storyline.

Speaking to the Radio Times this week, Jenna had this to say:

You’re in Doctor Who knowing it will never last. It’s constantly regenerating, so you want to make your time count and enjoy the adventure for the fleeting time you’re here.

This isn’t the first time rumours have circulated regarding Jenna’s place in the show. Reports last year suggested that she would make her final appearance in the 2014 Christmas special. Showrunner Steven Moffat later said that Jenna originally wanted to leave at the end of Series 8, then the special, before deciding she wanted to stay.

The Doctor Who camp has said there is ‘no comment’ regarding the reports.

Doctor Who returns for its ninth season on 19th September on BBC1 and BBC America.
