Just in case you missed it, last night, Joey Richter and the guys from Cool Pool Party (the makers of Craig the Genie) released a music video for “My Shiny Teeth And Me”. Yes, the beloved song from Nicktoon, The Fairly Odd Parents, originally sung by Chris Kirkpatrick (*NSync) as Chip Skylark.
Around three years ago, some Starkid fans pointed out that Joey resembles the animated rockstar and he had decided that he would do a cover of the song. He actually discussed it with me when I interviewed him in August of 2010 .
The timing was never right for Joey, he’s been working pretty much nonstop over the past three years. Between graduating college, all of his work with Team Starkid, and his television roles there never seemed a moment to film.
The fans never stopped asking for the cover of ”My Shiny Teeth”.
Recently, when Joey and the gang at Cool Pool Party (Brandon Blanks, Jordan Kelley, Pat McLaughlin, and Andrew Parkhill) took over Side B Radio, a listener requested that Joey sing the song as a challenge on-air. Joey declined, pointing out that he didn’t know the words and didn’t want to “half-ass” the performance.
With the Craig the Genie Kickstarter running out of time and was just over halfway to goal when Joey offered his fans a compromise. If the goal was met and Craig was fully funded, then he and the gang would film the long anticipated video. The project actually exceeded the goal and was successfully funded and so Cool Pool Party Productions made good on their end.
The video deviates from the lighthearted theme of the song, but it’s quite entertaining. Pulp Fiction meets Nickelodeon, who knew it would work? Also keep an eye out for an homage to Joey’s Very Potter character, Ron Weasley.
"My Shiny Teeth And Me" was released on August 18th. It has acquired over 31,000 views on YouTube. Enjoy!
