The Marvel Cinematic Universe is still going strong, but that doesn’t mean that everyone is on board. As it turns out, some very famous names are starting to get sick of the ever-expanding connected comic book universe, and one of those names is John Landis.
John Landis is "Bored Sh*tless"
In an interview with entertainment.ie, the filmmaker revealed that he was sick and tired of Marvel movies.
“I’m just… truthfully, I’m bored sh*tless with the Marvel Universe now. All the superhero movies tend to be interchangeable, you always have these mass destruction of cities and huge computer-generated extravaganzas to the point where you could take a reel from any of the Marvel superhero movies and put it any of the others and nobody would notice. They’re very well-made, it’s just they’re the same thing over and over again. But, I don’t know, people are showing up. One of the reasons Wonder Woman has been received so well by the critics is that it doesn’t destroy cities! Even the superhero stuff is on a very human scale, it’s the gods! We’re not seeing skyscrapers tumbling!”
Landis, whose films include National Lampoon’s Animal House, The Blues Brothers, ¡Three Amigos!, Coming to America and Beverly Hills Cop III, went on to say that while he’s grown tired of what Marvel is turning out, he was not at all bored with Wonder Woman and seemed to genuinely delight in Gal Gadot’s performance, saying “I saw Wonder Woman last night, actually! Have you seen it? I thought it was good, I really liked her -- she was wonderful, really charming and beautiful. She really sold it. I was very impressed with the girl -- the woman!”
As Wonder Woman breaks DC box office records, one can’t help but wonder if the MCU is getting too big and if a breaking point is on the way. Only time will tell!
