John Scott, Cut By Team Three Times, Voted All-Star Captain

Despite being cut from the Coyotes three times and having a low scoring NHL career, John Scott was voted Captain for the upcoming all-star game.

Hockey fans from all over the world woke up this morning to news of who would be named NHL All-Star Captains. The voting went by division, and each of the four divisions now have a captain.

The Metropolitan Captain is Alexander Ovechkin, the Atlantic Captain is Jaromir Jagr, Central Captain is Patrick Kane and the Pacific Division Captain is… John Scott.

Let me remind you why these players were voted. Alexander Ovechkin is one of the best hockey players in the game today. He has won the Rocket Richard for the NHL’s goal-scoring lead multiple times and is leading the Washington Capitals in the NHL. Jagr is becoming one of the top-goal scorers of all-time in the hockey world and, at 43 years old, is still rolling. Patrick Kane leads the NHL in points and rode a 26-game point streak earlier this year.

John Scott has been waived by the Arizona Coyotes three times. In 285 games of his NHL career, he has five goals, six assists, a minus-18 rating and 542 penalty minutes. In just 11 games this season, he has an assist. He is an all-star captain. Elected by the fans.

Is it a joke? It seems that fans pushed for his election as a captain about a month ago, in a frenzy where he led all NHL players in voting.

He has some advantages. He is big, real big. 6-foot-8 and 259 pounds. Also, he is tough and he does what he wants. Especially if that means pushing guys around. So, game on, John.

It looks like, unless he declines his invitation, he is headed to the All-Star game in January, where he will lead and represent the Pacific Division.

The Pacific is one of the worst divisions currently in NHL hockey; the Los Angeles Kings are the only ones performing to caliber – all of the other teams are in the basement of the NHL and are only one point apart from each other.

John Scott jerseys should go on sale soon, and if you are an NHL fan like I am, it’s a fun memento to realize this is one of the best moments in NHL all-star history. It is a game for the stars and the goal-scorers and the high-caliber players. But this year, someone else gets a chance.

And just because he’s a tough guy on the ice doesn’t mean he’s not a good guy off. He’s a good teammate to have, and said going to the All-Star game would be a dream come true, but he wouldn’t want to be voted as a joke.

Plus, it’s good to have diversity. The captains are all from different nations around the world, and it’s nice to see someone fun in the mix. Well, all the best from us to John Scott!
