The trailer for Jon Stewart’s directorial debut, Rosewater, has dropped and fans of the phenomenal The Daily Show are in for a surprise. Check out the impressive and haunting trailer for Stewarts directorial debut:
The whip-smart satirist has taken on the true story of Iranian-born Newsweek journalist Maziar Behari, who was arrested, imprisoned and tortured for 118 days in Tehran during the controversial Iranian presidential debates in 2009. Based on the Behari’s memoir, Then They Came for Me, Stewart’s Rosewater shows the imprisonment as harrowing, while showing compassion and maintaining his trademark wit throughout. It's gripping.   Jon Stewart’s highly anticipated directorial debut is very different to what we have come to know and love from his Emmy-winning talk show, but it proves to be as haunting and gripping as you would expect. It's particularly haunting in  light of recent events, where journalists are being taken prisoner in the Middle-East. Starring Gael Garcia Bernal in the lead role, Rosewater is receiving critical acclaim and glowing reviews all around. Variety, in their glowing review, said:
Stewart’s confident, superbly acted debut  feature works as both a stirring account of human endurance and a topical reminder of the risks faced by journalists in pursuit of the truth...
Even watching the trailer gives you shivers, particularly the emotional and mental torture scenes. This movie is one to look out for, folks, so mark the date on your calenders Jon Stewart actually got input on the script from Hollywood legends J.J. Abrams and Ron Howard. Stewart joked that he was that dick in the coffee shop with a "script." Is it possible to love him any more?! He's just the best. Rosewater opens in theaters November .
