Jonah Hill Hits Out At The Wolf Of Wall Street Critics

Angie Grace

Staff Writer

Jonah Hill has spoken out about those who have claimed that his new movie The Wolf of Wall Street glorifies bad behavior and criminal activity. In the film, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Hill plays Donnie Azoff, a character based on Danny Porush, who in real life was convicted of securities fraud and money laundering. Shown in the film is sex with prostitutes, drug use, and illegal trading practices, which Hill says are all accurate depictions of what really happened, according to the book by Jordan Belfort, whom DiCaprio portrays. While being honored at Variety's Creative Impact Awards and 10 Directors to Watch brunch in Palm Springs on Sunday (January 5), Hill went on to say, “I personally take away the message from the film that this behavior, this lifestyle, leads to a very bad ending... I think the movie is not glorifying this behavior, it is showing that it leads to bad places whether their judicial punishment doesn’t reflect that is one thing. Where your life ends up, who you are as a person, is another.” The film has generated significant Oscar buzz, which could lead to Hill’s second Best Supporting Actor nomination.
