It doesn’t seem like that long ago that we were reporting the anti-LGBT views of the Duggar family from 19 Kids and Counting as they protested in an attempt to keep gay people from their neighborhood. Well, it appears they should be taking a closer look nearer to home as it has emerged that the eldest of the 19, Josh, who is married with three kids, has been named in a case of sexual assault regarding a minor from when he was a teen.
According to In Touch magazine, Josh’s father Jim Bob brought him forward to the Arkansas State Police after he allegedly found him leaving a young girl’s bedroom and “learned that something inappropriate happened,” according to a source close to the case.
Josh was accused of sexual assault in the fourth degree, but the case was not pursued because the trooper in charge was found guilty of being in possession of child pornography and sentenced to 56 years in prison.
The case was not followed up, and by the time it was brought to the Child Abuse Hotline and then Crimes Against Children Division, the then 3-year statute of limitations had passed and there was nothing they could do. The source claimed, “A technicality prevented any further action, that’s been the biggest regret in all of this.”
In Touch did not name any of their sources, but did get a statement from Sgt. Darrel Hignite — identified by multiple sources as the officer who led the investigation into the allegations about Josh — and was told: “I can’t comment or discuss [this case] because of the sensitive nature and because it involved a juvenile.”
Josh himself, who is now 27, is the executive director of FRCAction, which is the lobbying sector of the Family Research Council, who are extremely anti-LGBT and campaigns against marriage equality, anti-bullying programs, and the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, among others.
Ironically, one of the Duggar’s main claims against homosexuality is that the people who “practice” it are child-molesters and perpetrators of domestic violence.
Personally, I would always like to believe that these kinds of claims are false. When I first began researching it, I hoped that Jim Bob had simply come across a scene that did not agree with HIS ideas of decency, such as the fact that he does not believe in kissing or frontal hugging before marriage, but the evidence is there. Fourth degree sexual assault applies to serious allegations and when they are applied to a minor, there is no excuse. Until we get more information, these are all allegations and we will be sure to report on any new information as it comes to light.
