Julia Roberts is attached to produce and star in a film, based on the case of Kelli Peters, a PTA mom who was framed for drug possession by a couple of vindictive parents.
The movie has not yet landed a distributor, but there are multiple bids for the project.
The film will be based on the book ‘I’ll Get You!’ Drugs, Lies, and the Terrorizing of a PTA Mom, which was written by victim Kelli Peters and Sam Rule.
Peters was the PTA President and volunteer at Plaza Vista Elementary School in Irvine, California. She and her husband had moved to the city after she got pregnant because it had been ranked as the safest city in America for the past eleven years.
In February of 2011, she was the subject of an anonymous phone call to the police that seemed to allege she was in possession of illegal narcotics. Police came to the school and searched Kelli Peters’ vehicle where they found pills, a ceramic pot pipe, and a bag of marijuana.
Peters insisted that the drugs weren’t hers, and, when police asked her how the drugs appeared in her car, she told them ‘I have an enemy.’ As it turns out, the drugs were planted as part of a year-long campaign of systematic harassment against Kelli Peters perpetrated by Kent and Jill Easter, a couple of vindictive parents.
The conflict between Peters and the Easters began exactly a year before the drug allegations with what seemed to be an innocent incident. Jill Easter had gone to school to pick up her son but found that he was late; Kelli Peters, who was in charge of the pick-ups, told her that the boy had been a “little slow”, which meant he did not get in line with the other children on time. However, Easter took it as an insult to her son’s intelligence, and, ever since that moment, she — with the help of her husband, Kent — began working on getting Peters ousted from the school.
Kelli Peters was investigated, but, eventually, the truth came out. Earlier this year, she won a $5.7 million judgement case against the Easters.
This true story seems to be something that came out of a work of fiction, and we can’t wait to see what Julia Roberts does with the character.
