Like everyone else with any sense, we at PopWrapped have been waiting (somewhat impatiently) for the upcoming sequel to 1964 classic film Mary Poppins—especially since it was announced that none other than Into the Woods star Emily Blunt would be reprising the beloved character.

Apparently we aren’t the only ones who were thrilled with this casting news! According to the film’s director, Rob Marshall, the original umbrella-wielding super nanny has just given Blunt her seal of approval.

Stated Blunt in an interview, “"Rob said he was in the Hamptons, and he saw [Andrews], and he said, ‘It's top secret, but Emily Blunt's playing Mary Poppins,' And she went, ‘Oh, wonderful!'"”

And with her reaction to praise from a world-renowned actress, the British beauty proved that even the biggest stars get star struck.

“I felt like I wanted to cry,” Blunt explained. “It was lovely to get her stamp of approval. That took the edge off it, for sure.”

While most fans were completely confident in Blunts ability to play the esteemed character, Andrews’ approval worked wonders to calm the actress’s nerves, especially after Bunt expressed some anxiety at taking on such a revered character.

“I feel a little more trepidation with this [character] because she's so emblematic of people's nostalgia,” stated Blunt in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “It's such an important character in people's childhood."

So what can fans expect from this highly anticipated sequel? Well, it’s clear that Mary Poppins Returns will not just be a carbon copy of the original. According to the newly hired nanny, this film will delve deeper into the Mary Poppins books, with Blunts version of the character packing a little more punch.

Also set to appear in the 2018 film are Hamilton writer and superstar Lin-Manuel  Miranda, who will portray a streetlamp lighter named Jack, and (allegedly) Meryl Streep.

One things for sure, 2018 can’t get here any faster!
