Just when we all thought Justin Bieber might be getting himself on the right track again after a year that saw him clash with photographers and basically just be a pain in the butt (FYI: not the view of everyone, but it's most certainly my own), he messes up again.
Reports over the weekend, including one from People magazine, claim that while on a visit to Mexico, he was kicked out of the famous Mayan archaeological site as a result of his inappropriate behavior which saw him. among other things, remove his pants (?!!!).
Adriana Velazquez-Morlet, director of the Mexican National Institute of Anthropology and History said of Bieber's actions:
“I can confirm to you that Mr. Bieber was kicked out of the Tulum archaeological site yesterday. He and his mates pulled his pants down and insulted our staff at the site.”
She went on to add that:
“We have a very strict policy of conservation and respect of the Mexican cultural heritage that applies equally to all our visitors, whether or not they’re famous.”
It is also claimed that Bieber tried to claim the famous ruins, something which is greatly frowned upon due to their age and condition. The Mayan ruins are considered hugely and highly symbolic to the Mexican people, so it's little surprise to find that his actions weren't appreciated by others at the site.
Despite these reports, other sources have confirmed that the singer was perfectly polite and respectful when visiting other sites earlier in the week.
While on a visit to the Jungla Maya Park on January 5th, a spokeswoman for AllTournative, Nathalie Leno, said Bieber:
“...expressed a lot of interest in the work we do to preserve the environment. He was completely respectful, and he participated in the welcoming ceremony performed by a local shaman. He even ate some of the traditional food prepared by local communities.”
