Justin Theroux, who you may have seen in Six Feet Under and Parks and Recreation, has recently been cast the lead in the HBO Pilot The Leftovers.
Theroux will be playing Kevin Garvey, the town’s chief of police and father of two – “a man trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy in a world that is starting to completely reject that notion.”
The Leftovers is based on the 2011 novel written by Tom Perrotta, which centers on the citizens of Mapleton when a rapture-like event takes place – many citizens are left without an explanation and nothing is the same. Perrotta will be a co-writer and executive producer for the show, joining Damon Lindelof (who is most noted for creating Lost). Peter Berg is set to direct the pilot.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the official logline is as follows: “The Rapture happens. But not quite like it’s supposed to. This is the story of the people who didn’t make the cut… and a world that will never be the same.”
Sounds pretty interesting! Who’s ready to see this comedic actor take on a more dramatic role?
