Having worked in the gaming industry for 20 years, and doing investigative journalism to research content for video games, Director Keith Arem put the virtual world aside to focus on reality… well, a controversial reality.
Arem has crossed over into the world of film and television with his new film, The Phoenix Incident, which will make its U.S. premiere with Fathom Events in theaters nationwide on March 10, 2016.
The film is a fictionalized account of the “Phoenix Lights”, which occurred March 13, 1997 in Arizona. It includes many factual details and real-life information, but also incorporates many fictional elements to demonstrate and analyze what may have happened that night, the largest UFO sighting in history.

The footage in the film features eye-witnesses, political leaders, and actual licensed video from the sighting, but Arem has also incorporated the controversial narrative about the disappearance of four people from that night, which is thought to be associated with the UFO sighting.
As Arem and his team continued to complete their research for the film, they came to learn that the military attributes the sighting to routine flares, but Arem believes that the flares were sent out as a distraction promptly after the UFO sighting was reported to the military.
After all, “flares don’t fly in formation for hours at a time.”
They even closed the airport and scrambled jets because they didn’t know what was in the airspace that night. “I don’t think the military was prepared for it. There were so many civilians who saw it that by the time the military had a chance to respond, they were scrambling to come out. So it happened very fast, but the actual event took place over two-four hours,” he said.
At San Diego Comic-Con, Arem shared his motivation and goals for the film. It’s his hope that through The Phoenix Incident, “the government will step forward and start to disclose a lot more the records about what was happening.” Audiences have been extremely responsive, and even while he was at the Con this past summer,

e in the exhibit floor were walking up to him to share their own stories and accounts from that night.
“We’re just hoping that using a motion picture, especially coming from the entertainment side, is that you want a public to start to understand that there is stuff happening,” he said. “When people see the footage, and they understand the story and the characters, and all the other stuff that we have around it — it’s really powerful. We met with a lot of the families…and that was very enlightening to us.”
And for those of you still doubting any sort of UFO sighting occurring, Arem makes a a very logical and persuasive point. “There was such a threshold of sightings and other things and even if you could just count 95% of all the UFO sightings to military aircraft or atmospheric anomalies, or hoaxes. Whatever that 5% is, that 5% is real. Even if it’s 1% — that changes everything.”
