NBC are set to develop a new multi-camera, medical-themed based comedy series and according to Deadline, Ken Jeong is set to star in and produce the new series, titled Dr. Ken. If you’re a fan of Ken Jeong, you already know that he is a comedic genius, starring in the NBC cult-comedy Community, as well as The Hangover movie franchise. But what you may not know is that this funny man is also a licensed physician. Jeong earned his M.D. at the University of North Carolina and completed an internal medicine residency at New Orleans’ Ochsner Medical Center. So one could safely assume that combining his comedy talents and his medical background, there would be no one more suited for the job. The new series is being produced by Sony and is based on Ken’s early days as a doctor, before the call of comedy became too strong to ignore. Jared Stern (The Internship) is reportedly signed on to pen the pilot script and serve as executive producer. Jeong is returning for Community’s 5th and rumoured final season (please say it isn’t so – SixSeasonsAndAMovie!) as the loved, hated, feared and ultimately crazy, Ben Chang. But fear not, regardless of what happens with Dr. Ken or the renewal of Community for Season 6, Jeong assured fans he wouldn’t be saying goodbye to Community, posting on his Facebook, “I will never leave Community. I will always Chang the world”
