A major casting change is happening on the CBS sitcom Kevin Can Wait. Kevin James’ TV wife Erinn Hayes revealed she has been let go from the show.

TV characters come and go. But to let go of a vital character, now that’s a major shake-up. A significant casting change is happening on the CBS sitcom Kevin Can Wait. Kevin James’ current TV wife Erinn Hayes revealed on Twitter that she has been let go from the show.

Hayes played Kevin’s wife Donna throughout Season 1. The show follows a New York cop who retires after 20 years on the force, only to discover retirement is not as easy as he thought.

Changes on Kevin Can Wait

According to Variety sources, the show going in a different creative direction, and is not a reflection of the actress’ performance. Before Hayes announced her departure from the show, it was coincidentally confirmed that Leah Remini was joining the cast for season 2. Remini previously appeared in the Season 1 finale as Vanessa Cellucci, an undercover cop and the former partner of James’ character.

For those who weren’t die hard fans of The King of Queens,  James and Remini starred as an on-screen couple for nine seasons. The sitcom ran in the same time slot as Kevin Can Wait, also on CBS, from 1998 until 2007. So the question remains, is a reboot on the way? Based on the casting news, it seems to be leaning towards that direction. I guess we’ll find out once season 2 airs on Monday, Sept. 25 at 9/8c.

The sitcom also stars Taylor Spreitler, Mary-Charles Jones, James DiGiacomo, Ryan Cartwright, Lenny Venito, Gary Valentine, and Leonard Earl Howze. James, Rock Reuben, Rob Long, Jeff Sussman, Andy Fickman, Tony Sheehan, and Steve Mosko are executive producers for CBS Television Studios in association with Sony Pictures Television.
