Kickstarter Brings In Its Billionth Dollar

March 3rd was a billion dollar day for Kickstarter! According to Digital Spy, since Kickstarter’s inception in 2009 more than 5.7 million backers have used the crowd funding service to invest over a billion dollars in various independent projects throughout 224 countries. 2013 was a particularly active year for Kickstarter, with over half of the company’s total pledges coming in during that year alone.

Video games are the hottest properties for Kickstarter campaigns, bringing in over $215 million in funds for titles such as Broken Age, Mighty Number 9, Star Citizen, and La-Mulana 2.

Users in the U.S. are the biggest Kickstarter supporters, contributing $663,316,496. The U.K. is at number two with $54,427,475 in donations.
