When it comes to the future of the Kill Bill movies by Quentin Tarantino, I’ve gone through the emotions of being anxious, excited, hopeful, and disappointed, but I’ll take this most recent indication as the best sign so far. Director Quentin Tarantino has been doing press for his recent film The Hateful Eight, and opened up to Variety regarding the possibility of a third installment to one of Tarantino’s best examples of his creativity. Tarantino says, “I’m not committing to it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if The Bride made one more appearance before the whole thing is said and done…I am talking to Uma [Thurman] about it just a little bit. Some of the stuff that I’d written that never made it into the movie that maybe I could use.” There have been past instances where the director has divulged that he had a few possible ideas for the future of the Kill Bill franchise, (most frequently including Elle Driver, Nikki, Sophie Fatale, and Beatrix Kiddo) but every time there was momentum, any talk of the film became practically unheard of to my dismay. What makes this different than the other occasions is that he also mentions having focused on literary influences in his recent films, and would like to return to something more “visceral” before he finishes out his film directorial work.

Tarantino has also repeatedly stated that he only plans to direct 10 films, with The Hateful Eight becoming his 8th film (and Kill Bill volumes 1 and 2 were labeled as a single feature) that would mean he only has two films left before he searches for different artistic endeavors. There’s also a strong possibility that Kill Bill Vol. 3 would be under the umbrella of the original Kill Bill project, leaving him with two others to create, but before we assume anything let’s make sure this actually manages to pick up steam. Much like Tarantino stated, the idea of Beatrix living a happy life with her daughter is perfect for her epic tale, so let’s hope that the mother and daughter can kick-ass together this time around! Who else is enamored by the idea of returning to the world of Kill Bill?
