Kodansha Comics self-proclaimed “Biggest Attack on Titan Manga Announcement Ever” has finally arrived! At their New York Comic Con panel on Thursday, Kodansha announced its plans on creating and releasing an original Attack on Titan anthology in Fall of 2016; the anthology will be 250 pages of full-colored goodness and will be a Western based comic project only. This anthology will feature a slew of short stories done by western comic artists; the talented artists to be featured in the anthology are the following (Kodansha mentioned they have left out two “big names” that will be participating in the project as well, who could they be?):

• Scott Snyder (Batman)

• Genevieve Valentine (Batman & Robin)

• Cameron Stewart (Bat Girl)

• Brenden Fletcher (Bat Girl)

• Babs Tarr (Bat Girl)

• Paolo Rivera (Daredevil)

• Kevin Wada (She Hulk)

• Damion Scott (Ghost Rider)

• Faith Erin Hicks (Superhero Girl)

• Ronald Wimberly (Prince of Cats)

• Tomer and Asaf Hanuka (The Divine)

• Gail Simone (Red Sonja)

• Kate Leth (Kate or Die!) and Jeremy Lambert

• Afua Richardson (Genius)

• Micael Avon Oeming (Victories)

The artists/writers will be able to “create their own characters for the short stories.” Ben Applegate, Kodansha’s director of publishing, had the following to say about the Attack on Titan anthology:

“We’re trying to create a book with a wide variety of stories, so I want to start with what the creators are interested in doing and go from there. So far, we’ve got a few serious stories in the Titan continuity, a few stories involving Titans in new settings, and a few completely off-the-wall comedy pieces.”

This isn’t the first western Attack on Titan themed release (excluding the mangas). Last year, a crossover comic was released of The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy fighting various titans, including the Colossal Titan and Female Titan, in New York City. Hajime Isayama, the original creator of the mega-hit series, created the storyline for the comic himself. Marvel provided the comic for free “as part of Free Comic Book Day in May.”

The Attack on Titan manga series has spawned four spin-off manga’s, an anime series, two live-action films, two anime compilation films, an anime series based on one of the spin-offs and now a western anthology. The highly anticipated second season of Attack on Titan is set to air in 2016; currently airing is the anime adaptation of the spin-off manga series titled Attack on Titan: Junior High.
