The final trailer for Kong: Skull Island (2017) dropped, and we cannot hold back our excitement! As with the previous trailers, we get our Apocalypse Now (1979) vibe as we see several helicopters converging on this enigmatic and maybe not quite so “deserted” island. Every trailer including this one has been building up the adrenaline more and more, and has now scared audiences twice with its “jump out of your seat” attack from those bone-chilling “Skull Crawlers.”
It’s nice to hear Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson’s characters getting some more speaking time in this preview as well. One thing is for sure: like in all of the previous trailers, they have not been shy in showing us what Kong looks like, and the film, especially in 3-D, is definitely going to be intense.
The last time we saw Kong on the big screen was over ten years ago, with Peter Jackson’s film epic in 2005, so it’ll be great to see that big guy again, and undeniably frightening. But while that version was more of a retelling (with some added new material to give the film its three hour plus runtime), staying true to the original 1933 classic with “beauty killing the beast,” rumors are afoot that this film will not see the end of Kong, as he still has some serious business to attend to when he tackles the giant lizard in Godzilla vs. Kong (2020).
It certainly looks to be a mysterious edge-of-your-seat ride, with dozens of large, deadly creatures lurking to pounce in the jungle, and we aren’t just talking about Kong. There is without a doubt some fun adventure to be had here, and with this incredible cast, jaw-dropping visuals, and heart-pounding action, we can’t wait to see this in theaters! Although some us might be a little scared.
