Kristen Bell Speaks Out About Hollywood's Obsession With Weight

Chelsea Workman-Jernigan

Staff Writer

Most women would continue to be obsessing over their weight six months after giving birth, but not a certain Veronica Mars star. Kristen Bell may have given birth to daughter, Lincoln, back in March, but she’s not worrying over her post-baby weight. In an interview for Redbook’s September issue, she told the magazine, “I refused to worry about something I could not change, and I still refuse. I am not a woman whose self-worth comes from her dress size.” Of course, Kristen, 32, initially struggled just like most pregnant women: “Look, I'm like any other woman. All this evolved b.s. that I'm telling you is my mantra: It's not something I practice naturally. I had to surrender to not worrying about the way I looked, how much I weighed, because that's just part of the journey of having a baby. I am not a woman whose self-worth comes from her dress size.” Redbook Editor in Chief, Jill Herzeg, was inspired by Bell and decided to write a piece about Bell’s weight loss success. Jill wrote, "I'm proud of our September cover featuring Kristen Bell, photographed 11 weeks after her daughter, Lincoln, was born. In our shot she is comfortable, clear-eyed, and lovely. She is also, by her estimation, 15 pounds away from her pre-pregnancy weight. She gained a very normal 43 lbs. with Lincoln, and when we spoke to her she was pleased that healthy eating (extra fruits, veggies and protein shakes) paired with low-impact exercise (Bar Method classes and workout DVDs), plus breast-feeding, had taken care of 28 lbs." Speaking about having a career while being a mother, Kristen said, "I still want a career.  Lincoln will always be number one, but I think if you can cut that cord of obsessiveness, then you can work and be a good mother and wife.” She also discussed being away from her daughter while working. "I can't look at her pictures today, because it hurts my feelings. I start wondering what she's thinking, like, ‘Where's the girl with the blonde hair and the boobs?’” Kristen got engaged to Parenthood actor Dax Shephard this past summer, and he was “nothing but supportive” during her pregnancy. "All he did was tell me how much he loved me chubby. He even asked me to stay chubby after the baby was born." http://www.Twitter.com/PopWrapped https://pop-wrapped.tumblr.com http://www.SoundCloud.com/PopWrapped http://www.Facebook.com/PopWrapped http://www.Instagram.com/PopWrapped http://www.Pinterest.com/PopWrapped http://www.YouTube.com/PopWrapped https://pop-wrapped.wordpress.com http://www.PopWrapped.com
