Embattled L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been stripped of his decision-making power in the sale of the team due to a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s.
According to TMZ, the legal trust involved in the family ownership of the team states that if two qualified physicians declare Sterling or his wife Shelly “unable to conduct business affairs in a reasonable and normal manner” their control can be removed.
Earlier this month Donald was examined by two neurologists who diagnosed him with Alzheimer’s and determined that he was unable to make competent decisions.
Sterling can appeal the decision in California Probate Court on June 22nd. Donald Sterling had already relinquished control of the team to his wife Shelly, so it is unclear if the current declaration of incompetence will render that move invalid.
It looks like the Sterling family will be seeing much more of legal courts than basketball courts in the forthcoming months.
