Lana del Ray Feels Discouraged By Music Leaks

Leaking in the music business has become a really powerful thing in the last decade, although not necessarily in a good way.

Artists can put out new material and claim it was “stolen” to see how the public will react or what their feedback is before actually putting the proper material out, and make it better based on that feedback.

But most times it’s the result of an overly-hyped and impatient musical business; and Lana del Rey knows this.

Ever since her career gave a huge leap forward following her contract with Interscope and the release of her first single off Born To Die, “Videogames,” she’s been a regular victim of leaked material.

The songs in question are sometimes part of what she’s been writing for potential release on her next record, like “Black Beauty,” and other times are something a little more controversial, like “So Legit,” a maybe-old-maybe-new demo where she aimlessly bashes Lady Gaga.

Either way, she says these incidents make her feel discouraged from writing.

Inspiration doesn’t comes that easily when you feel like your life is, “completely invaded.” She takes this seriously because she doesn’t put random leaked music out for the world to see/hear, as many fellow partners in the music business do nowadays. “I’ll never write a song if I don’t think it’s going to be perfect for the record,” Lana said.

She feels positive about her oncoming material. She says she’s been working with people like Daniel Heath and boyfriend – Barrie-James O’Neill – and she really likes what they’re doing together.

“[The new songs are] really low-key and stripped back, all sort of West Coast inspired”. And she isn’t afraid to admit she would like to work with Lou Reed one day, while keeping things “low-key and cool.”
