It's All About Lance Bass: Fans Celebrate LB Appreciation Day | Lance Bass
Media Courtesy of
On Thursday, October 2, 2014, Lance Bass fans (fondly known as amBASSadors) all over the world will be celebrating Lance Bass Appreciation Day. Lance Bass is an American pop singer, entertainer, actor, television and film producer, author, LGBT activist, and philanthropist. Bass became an internationally renowned superstar as part of the boy band, *NSYNC. Along with his bandmates, Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick and Joey Fatone, Bass was part of a generation of entertainers who left an indelible mark on the music industry. Today, Lance Bass is one of the busiest people in the entertainment world. With a slew of projects currently on the table, and numerous others underway, Bass is making the world take note. His fans are excited, understandably so, and I would argue that everyone should be “all about Lance Bass.” Bass currently hosts a daily evening-drive radio show on Sirius XM. He has also been involved in the production of several films and documentaries, including, "Such Good People," "Mississippi I Am," "Kidnapped for Christ," "Hell and Back," and "Trouble Dolls." Bass was recently featured on Lifetime’s "Celebrity Home Raiders," has made many appearances on "Entertainment Tonight," and shot the pilot for an unconventional ( but fabulously entertaining) talk show, "Sunset on Sunset.” More than a decade since the guys of *NSYNC took a hiatus in order to pursue individual projects, Bass’ has returned to his music roots with the recently released single, “Walking on Air” (featuring Anise K. and Bella Blue). “Walking on Air” gives us a taste of Bass at his finest. The song, an upbeat dance track, showcases his vocals exquisitely. For this special tribute article to commemorate Lance Bass Appreciation Day, I reached out to members of Lance Bass’ Street Team, a group of individuals who have been working to promote Bass’ projects via social media. If you are not yet in the know about what Bass is up to these days, you will be delighted to read their comments, thoughts and well wishes.

How long have you been a Lance Bass fan? Why have you remained a devoted fan?

I have to do the math… close to seventeen years now since his early *NSYNC days. I have remained a fan because he has such a variety of projects from acting, producing, and hosting, which makes it easy to stay intrigued. I have never met him, but he seems to have such a big and welcoming heart. You don’t see that all the time with people in the entertainment industry. – L.L., Loves Park, Illinois 16 years (ish). [I’ve been a fan since] 9th grade, because Lance is so nice and cares for his fans and people he barely knows… And he helps people. I remember *NSYNC telling stories about how they visited children's hospitals all the time. – A.Y., Conway, Arkansas I have been a Lance fan since the days of *NSYNC. I have remained a devoted fan because that's what a true fan does! Lance never puts his nose in the air or looks down on anyone. He's honest to the core. Not many celebs are like that. – L.D., Rye, New York I'm a new amBASSador. Having grown up being strictly a Backstreet Boys fan, Lance wasn't exactly on my radar. R.G., Havelock, North Carolina I have been a Lance Fan since I saw him on the Disney Concert series way back in 1998. My best friend had called me up and told me to turn on the channel. I fought with her for five minutes, saying that I was already watching my favorite show. Finally, I changed the channel and immediately fell in love with *NSYNC. – K.K., Holland, Michigan I’ve been a Lance fan since the *NSYNC days. I’ve remained a fan of Lance’s because he is involved in so many incredible projects. I want to support him and learn more about the new projects he’s involved in. He’s so down-to-earth, nice, and friendly that you can’t help but like him. And he’s funny! – D.H., Niagara Falls, New York I have been a fan of *NSYNC and Lance Bass since around 1998 when I first heard “I Want You Back” and “Tearin’ Up My Heart” on the radio. Of course at the same time, *NSYNC’s picture started appearing on the cover of teen magazines. For reasons I could not yet explain at the time, I knew that there was something special about Lance, and that he would be my favorite. At the beginning, it was probably those beautiful green eyes and his smile that drew me in. I have remained a devoted fan of Lance, because he is a beautiful person inside and out, and a true inspiration. I remember around the time that he was training to go to space and he spoke to a group of kids. His message to them was “Dream Big and Work Hard.” This is how Lance, himself, lives his life. He is such a positive person. He believes that all things are possible, and strives to make the world a better place. He is intelligent, funny, and an all-around nice guy. He’s also not afraid to laugh at himself. His smile and laugh are infectious. I love that he is not afraid to take risks and try new things, and that he lives life to fullest. He always takes time to talk to fans, or take a picture with them, and never takes his fans for granted. I look at Lance as a courageous person; someone that we could all learn something from. The fact that he is very easy on the eyes is just a bonus – A.T., Mukwonago, WI I've been a devoted Lance fan since September 1998, because every day and every year, he does more to warrant my respect and support. The better I know him, the better he gets. It's that simple. This is about more than a great voice and a handsome face. Lance is, by far, one of the kindest, most genuine, most generous hearts I've ever met. And he's so immensely talented.... BONUS!! – M.W., Michigan

Do you listen to Lance Bass’ Sirius XM radio show, “Dirty Pop Live”? Which guests on the show have been your favorites so far? Who do you hope will be a future guest on the show?

Yes, I do listen to “Dirty Pop,” usually every day except when work coincides with shows. I enjoy most of the guests. Lance seems to have a way of getting his guests to forget they are on the radio, which always ends up [creating] a really great show. It’s hard to name my favorite guests, because each show is different. But right now on Wednesdays, “Dirty Pop” has a segment called “Gravel Mail,” where Kim Gravel comes on and gives advice to listeners who call in, email, or tweet questions. I also love when Lance’s *NSYNC bandmates come in or call; it’s always good for some great stories. In the future I would love to see even more up-and-coming artists/actors/comedians. The show does a great job of [showcasing] new talent, which is wonderful to see. I guess a pipe dream would be for all the members of *NSYNC to be on a show together, but I’m not sure that will ever happen. – L.L., Loves Park, Illinois When I get a chance, I listen to “Dirty Pop” On Demand. I would love to see Joey Fatone and other *NSYNC members, as well as [JC Chasez’s girl group] Girl Radical. There are so many people I would love to see on there. – A.Y., Conway, Arkansas Absolutely I do listen! My favorite guests so far have been JC Chasez (bring him back on please), Abby Lee Miller, and Kim Gravel! I would love to see Britney Spears, U2, Bill Maher on “Dirty Pop” (those are my top three picks, but my list is endless). I would also love if the *NSYNC guys would do surprise cameos! – L.D., Rye, New York YES! I love “Dirty Pop”! I listen every day! If I miss it, I listen to it the next morning, On Demand, to catch up. I have so many favorite guests, I've probably forgotten half of them. I definitely loved JC Chasez's visits! Melissa Peterman, Kathy Griffin, Joey Fatone... They were all hilarious! Even though I don't watch her show, I always enjoy when Lea Black is on. Jai Rodriguez is probably my favorite guest host. I keep hoping that Chris Kirkpatrick will call in again or be in the studio. – R.G., Havelock, North Carolina I don't have Sirius XM, so I listen to the show on the Dirty Pop app. I think my favorite thing is hearing just how close the Peanuts seem to be. They are hilarious to listen to. I love hearing all the stories and being introduced to new people and artists. I love anyone that is on, but I would love to hear Adam Lambert or Lea Michelle. I'm a big fan of them and their music. – K.K., Holland, Michigan I don’t listen to the show, unfortunately. BUT, I’d love to see JC Chasez on the show. BASSEZ! – D.H., Niagara Falls, New York I listen to Dirty Pop when I can, but I’m not able to listen every day. My favorite guests are usually musical guests. I really enjoyed when Travis Clark visited recently. His songs were beautiful, and the interview was fun. I also enjoy whenever Kim Gravel is there to give her great advice! I like when Lance’s good friend, Bob Merrick or various members of *NSYNC are on the show or call in… and I enjoyed when they talked to Kendall Schmidt from Big Time Rush and Heffron Drive. I would love for the show to have Megan Trainor on, and [maybe some] contestants from the new season of The Voice, or Nick Lachey. – A.T., Mukwonago, WI I do! I haven't missed a show yet! I've been listening since it was “The Pop Ten.” So many amazing people have visited the show, from musicians to philanthropists to household moms. They even had a representative from the White House on the phone! I can’t limit my favorite to just one guest. Each show and each guest bring new talents and insights and energy. I like when Lex Medlin visits. That guy is one in a million! So great!! I loved the interview with country artist Chely Wright! I was completely riveted hearing her struggles and successes! I also love Kim Gravel from “Kim of Queens.” She has a weekly advice segment for the show. That woman is priceless! Straightforward, honest, and completely lovable. Everybody needs a little Kim in their lives! I guess I have to say my favorite all-time guest is Amelia_blogger. Wow! She completely floored me! As a writer for HuffPost, she spoke of her very young son who came out to her as gay. She spoke of her response, and how she is trying to make the world a better place for LGBTQ youth. Who do I hope will be a future guest on the show? Wow. That's a tough one. How about.... me? LOL. No? Ok. This is such a tough question. Every day is such a great surprise over there. Hmmm... maybe Kathy Najimy or Pink. I'd love to hear them on the show! – M.W., Michigan

What are your thoughts on Lance’s new single, “Walking on Air”?

It is so great to hear Lance sing lead, something that didn’t happen when he was performing with *NSYNC. He sounds incredible and I can’t wait to hear him sing more. “Walking on Air” has such a great beat and it gets you moving. I’m so excited to see it getting such a great response. – L.L., Loves Park, Illinois I like it. It is a good dance song. I wish he would put out more songs! I would buy a whole album!! – A.Y., Conway, Arkansas I cannot lie I was really worried that I wasn't going to like the song, but as soon as I heard it, I was hooked! – L.D., Rye, New York I loved “Walking on Air” from the moment the song was released. It's definitely one of my ear worms; it gets stuck in my head often. I love the beat and the tempo. It has this vibe to it, so when you hear it you can't just sit and listen. You have to get up and move, or even tap your toes. Even my daughter - my 6 year old daughter who is all about Harry Styles and Once Direction - listens to “Walking on Air” and sings along. – R.G., Havelock, North Carolina “Walking On Air” is one of the top listened to songs on my phone. It's amazing to hear Lance's deep voice. Even my kids love the song and try to sing along. It should be played more on the radio. Everyone should hear it and have it – K.K., Holland, Michigan I absolutely LOVE “Walking on Air”! I’m so glad to hear music from Lance. – D.H., Niagara Falls, New York I love “Walking on Air." It's so catchy that once I hear it, I'm singing it for the rest of the day. Lance sounds amazing, and I think his voice works really well with Bella Blue’s voice. It’s very exciting to hear him do new music and I hope he continues recording more songs. In the *NSYNC days, we hardly ever got to hear Lance sing a solo, which was a shame. He has such a beautiful, pure-sounding voice! – A.T., Mukwonago, WI Oh, it's amazing to hear Lance on the radio again! What a great song! I was so thrilled to hear the original single, but then all the remixes came out! The Dave Aude remix is my boost... morning, noon and night! Lance sounds fantastic, doesn't he?! And as much as I love his voice, the fact that he kept the lyrics and got to sing man-to-man.... that's pretty incredible. I'm so proud of him, and so glad that he can stand tall and show the world who he really is. – M.W., Michigan

What do you enjoy most about being a part of Lance’s Street Team?

I think fans always want to feel like they are part of the success of an artist or entertainer. It’s fun to know that people are starting to interact with the team on Twitter. We are helping to get Lance and his many projects out there, and people are starting to notice. My favorite part has been getting to know the other Street Team members and interact with them. We all have good ideas and work really well together. It’s been a blast so far. – L.L., Loves Park, Illinois I love being able to get information out to fans who otherwise might not be able to get access to the information (like videos). And when Lance is away traveling, I feel like we are still able to promote his projects. – A.Y., Conway, Arkansas I'm truly honored that I was even asked to be a part of this amazing family. What I enjoy most is watching Lance be successful and seeing all his new projects. I feel like I'm living in a dream! – L.D., Rye, New York I love being able to push Lance's projects to new people; getting others to see what great things he has going on. There are a lot of *NSYNC fans who have no idea Lance is even doing anything. I see tweets probably once a week that sat things like, "I didn't know Lance Bass had a radio show," or "Lance Bass has a new song?" So it feels great to be a part of a team that's helping broadcast to old fans and finding new fans. – R.G., Havelock, North Carolina I enjoy being able to support Lance and get information about all that he has been doing out there, and I love getting the responses. Seeing and being able to help Jackson get adopted was a huge reward in my eyes. I have also loved getting to know the rest of the Street Team. We are all here for Lance and each other. I'm proud to be part of this team. – K.K., Holland, Michigan Not only do I enjoy helping Lance get his projects heard, but I love the Street Team members. They are all so genuinely nice, and they are always there any time you need them. I’m so very grateful that I met these wonderful girls, and I’m so truly proud to be associated with such an amazing team. I’m honored that I was asked to be a part of this incredible team. – D.H., Niagara Falls, New York What I enjoy most about being part of Lance’s Street Team is seeing results, and feeling like we are making a difference. It’s so thrilling that his single is moving up the charts, and I can’t help but feel like we had a part in that. Helping his projects to succeed is very gratifying, because no one deserves success more than Lance. It’s also been great to make new friends who share the same passion for Lance that I do, and working with them toward a common goal. – A.T., Mukwonago, WI This is the best job in the world. Every day I get to support and promote a man who is completely dedicated to changing the world. He has projects in film, music, radio, TV… it’s a joy to try to keep up with him! But, through every outlet imaginable, he is being heard. His voice and his message are making history. Who wouldn't want to be part of that? – M.W., Michigan

Thank you for being a beautiful person, inside and out; for having a huge heart; for having the courage to come out to the world and share your story, knowing it might not be well received and you might lose fans. Thank you for using your name and celebrity status to help individuals face who they are, simply by telling the world who you are.
