Lawson Unveil The Tongue-In-Cheek Video For New Single “Animals”

“the video is quite easily the most tongue in cheek and fun the band have ever created and features, among other things a very light-hearted dance routine and band members dressed up as you may never see them so again.”

When Lawson first burst onto the scene with their energetic pop sound, releasing their debut album Chapman Square in 2012, it didn’t take them long to win the hearts of and invade the ears of music lovers everywhere, and their live shows – need they be their own headline gigs or support slots with the likes of Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran – earned them strong reviews from fans and critics alike.

Since returning from their hiatus in 2018, Lawson have pretty much picked up where they left off with their fanbase as strong and their songs as catchy and enjoyable as ever – their latest single “Animals” being testament to that. Already playlisted by Radio2 and a feature on Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist recently, “Animals” adds a modern twist to 80’s power pop, and we here at PopWrapped are delighted to premiere its video.

Directed by band member Adam Pitts, the video is quite easily the most tongue in cheek and fun the band have ever created and features, among other things, a very light-hearted dance routine and band members dressed up as you may never see them so again.

Asked about the creative process and concept to the video, Lawson’s Andy Brown says: “Over the years we’ve had our fair share of ‘interesting’ ideas pitched to us for our music videos. However, normally we’d opt for the cool cars, Californian deserts and epic performance shots. With ‘Animals’ we wanted to do the complete opposite. We’ve never taken ourselves too seriously, so it didn’t take me long to convince the rest of the guys that we should simply dress up as animals and learn a dance routine. After all, we’re probably only going to release a song called ‘Animals’ once.

The video also features a special cameo, about which Andy adds: “We are all big fans of ‘Extras’ and ‘Life’s Too Short’ and that is where the idea to feature Shaun Williamson came from, once he agreed the rest all fell into place!”
