Losing a loved one is always hard, but losing a loved one in the public eye is excruciating. Lea Michele knows this first hand, because last year she lost her boyfriend Cory Monteith to an accidental overdose. In the March issue of Teen Vogue, Michele opens up about her struggle to none other than best friend and Glee alum Jonathan Groff. Lea eloquently explains why it is so important to have someone to lean on. “In this lifetime, if there is anything you need, it's a best friend," she said.

Groff is probably one of the few people who could truly ask his best friend the tough questions. “I sat down with Lea in Venice, California, at one of her favorite restaurants, Gjelina, to talk about her life and her debut album, and to ask the questions only a best friend is allowed to ask,” he said. The hot question that is still on everyone’s mind is: How is she dealing with life after her tragic loss? At times people forget that the world lost both Finn Hudson and Cory Monteith the actor, but Michele also lost her love. Jonathan Groff witnessed firsthand how Michele dealt with such a sudden loss. “...Watching you go through what you went through, I saw you exhibit so much strength. Where do you think that strength comes from? I can't comprehend it," he asked. Instead of a grand explanation, she just had a one word response: “Cory.” "I somehow feel the insane love Cory and I had for each other morphed into this strength that I have right now. There's just something about knowing he's watching everything I'm doing and feeling like I have to do everything now not just for me but for him. I also have a safety net below me—if I fall or if it's too much, my friends and family will be there to catch me,” Michele added. It is quite hard to imagine what it is like to go through such a trying time, but Lea Michele has handled it with grace. Within the past six months, she has done what she feels is most appropriate, plunging head first into her work. This includes her debut album Louder, due out February 28th. Something that helps Michele each day is knowing that Monteith was able to hear most of her album. Cory heard all of her songs except for “Cannonball” and “If You Say So,” all inspired with Cory in mind. She goes into detail about Monteith’s involvement, saying, “He was such a fan, you don't understand. He would be like, 'You're going to be a pop star! What are we going to do? Are we going to, like, go on the road?' He would say, 'This is going to be big!' And I'd be like, 'I don't know.' He heard every song and gave me his notes on everything. He loved 'Battlefield.' I'm getting chills thinking about it. I would say 'Burn with You' was his favorite. He came into the studio that day." The 27-year-old debuted several songs off her album over the past couple of months, and her newest song to drop is “What Is Love?” If you have yet to hear it, it’s available on iTunes now and you can listen to the full track in the video below. We at PopWrapped wish Lea nothing but the best. She is a beautiful person inside and out. Listen to "What Is Love?" here: [youtube=]
