Many people handle tragedy in different ways, Lea Michele is simply “trying to do her best” in the wake of her boyfriend Cory Monteith’s tragic death on July 13th. Michele is now opening up about how she had been able to keep a positive outlook on life during a difficult time. Lea Michele paid a visit to Elvis Duran and the Z100 Morning Show to debut her single “Cannonball” and where she opened up about the heartbreaking loss of Monteith who died unexpectedly of a drug and alcohol overdose.

Michele has had nothing but positive words about the people who have helped her get through the past five months, “I feel really thankful for the great people that I have in my life. To be able to continue to work and have things that I’m really proud of, I think that everything that I have been through, I have an opportunity right now to be a good role model and be a good sort of person,” she said. “I have amazing fans that have really supported me in everything that I have done, so if I have the opportunity right now to be inspiring or encouraging for anyone—make something positive out of it.”

Understandably Michele has had difficulty staying strong and dealing with the grief, turning to music has allowed her to cope with her pain. Around the time of Cory Monteith’s passing singer/songwriter Sia penned the song that we now know as Michele’s debut single. “Cannonball” was the single that she chose as her first single for many different reasons, “It’s more than just a song for me. It has helped me so much in this process personally. It’s given me strength; it’s given me hope. I get upset thinking about it, it’s really inspiring.” The single “Cannonball” is the song that Michele had a physical reaction to which also caused her to choose the song to be her debut single. Being able to debut her single on the radio was described as a “dream come true moment.”

Louder, Lea Michele’s debut album is to be released March 4th 2014. However this is not just a random date, there is great significance behind the release date. Michele explains, “March 4th. It’s my favorite day of the year,” she shared of the date her record is set to hit airwaves. “I love March 4th. For me, it means so much. You march forth in life. You have to. It just seems so positive to me… I didn’t pick the day, I had a day in my mind but I got an email and they were like ‘Oh, it’s going to come out March 4th’ and I was like ‘That is so meant to be’. It so, it just feels so right to me, so that’s sort of been the theme of everything right now: to march forth with such strength, so that’s what I’m trying to do.”

While releasing an album is a great accomplishment, Michele is thrilled that Monteith had opportunity to hear almost all of the songs on Louder, all songs that he heard gaining his endorsement. The album was ready to be released during the summer however; Lea Michele added two more songs that held meaning for their relationship. “”When Cory passed away in July we sort of stopped and looked at the record and thought, ‘Well is there anything now that we want to change or add?’” she recalled. “It was so perfect the way it was. What I love so much about the album, with the exception of two songs he [Cory Monteith] heard every single song. He was like my biggest fan and critic and he loved every song! He would give me all of his notes and I took every one into consideration.”

Not only is the Glee star releasing an album next year but she is also releasing her very first book, Brunette Ambition in May 2014. The upcoming year looks to be a very busy on for Michele. We at PopWrapped look forward to more great music from the beloved star.
