Glen Campbell has been in the music industry for years, and has achieved legendary status. Unfortunately, the singer and songwriter is suffering from Alzheimer's, and that has kept him away from his rightful place in the spotlight. However, he's now written the final pages of his career's book alongside his last track ever.
The ballad is titled "I'm Not Gonna Miss You", and comes straight from his last recording session. Despite the melancholic melody of the song, the lyrics are reflective of his condition and Glen Campbelleven makes fun of it in them. It's impressive that he has the strength to joke about it in this track that hits so close to home.
The accompanying music video finds him in the studio, singing the lyrics while recording. Of course, there are scenes from moments throughout his iconic career mixed in. There are photos from earlier and later in his career; from photos to videos, it's all a trip back to his memories, which are now fading away.
The singer has been facing the disease for years, but he's now moving towards the final stages of it. Specifically, Glen Campbell is currently in the sixth stage, severe cognitive decline, and that has caused him to move to 24-hour care. It's nice that he put an end to his career with a twist, having his label release the sad yet ironic tune.
Sad as his condition might be, it's admirable that he can actually go and put out a song like that! Give it a listen below.
