Liam Mogan Highlights The Power Of Solo Exploration With “Alone In The City” Video

“Capturing the experience of being alone in the city of Santa Monica isn’t the easiest thing to do..”

Having grown up inspired by the likes of Hank Williams, The Beach Boys and Alan Jackson, all of whom are renowned for their raw, honest and often emotive lyrics, it’s perhaps not surprising to learn that Liam Mogan has somewhat followed in their footsteps, creating his own brand of thought-provoking, connective music that has so far seen him perform at numerous venues across California and work with several top tier producers.

His new single “Alone In The City”, the video for which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere, is a vivid story of finding the best things in life through your surroundings. Given that our way of life and subsequently our surroundings; the way we view our homes, our cities and the world as a whole has changed considerably over the past several months, the track serves as a reminder of how exploring aspects of, or places in, life, particularly alone, can be a profound, euphoric experience. It certainly has been for Mogan, as he explains: “There’s something about being able to see the lights of the city without being seen yourself, getting the pier all to yourself, and driving PCH and Mulholland off-hours.”

The ongoing Corona crisis, which has seen once vastly populated areas all but deserted, had a deep impact on the creation of the track, and Mogan’s song-writing process. He adds, referring to how seeing the place he calls home so different to how it once was – so quiet: “I get a special feeling that makes me slow down and think about things that I don’t have time to think about during the day.”

He says of the creative process to and behind the video: “Capturing the experience of being alone in the city of Santa Monica isn’t the easiest thing to do, especially on an indie budget. We had an idea of what days/times would be best, so we went for it.  We stayed up super late to capture the parking structure skate scenes, and filmed the pier/beach scenes at daybreak. We lucked out and pretty much got the city to ourselves.”

Life as we know it might have changed, perhaps forever, but “Alone In The City” is a strong reminder that such a life, however different from that we once knew, and perhaps took for granted, can still seem perfect, if we take the time to stop, look around and admire all that is around us.
