One Direction’s Liam Payne suffered a serious scare at his London apartment this week.

A fire broke out on the balcony of the singer’s 34th floor flat Monday night, leading to three of his friends being admitted to hospital.

Directioners will be thankful to hear that Payne escaped unharmed, but travelled in the ambulance alongside his companions, two males and a female.

Of the incident, London Fire Brigade Station Manager Laurie Kenny said, “Firefighters worked quickly and professionally to get the fire under control as quickly as possible. Around 30 people left the building before we arrived and were not injured,” later adding, “Two of the occupants had superficial burns to their hands and the third had burns to his hands and face. All three have been taken to hospital”

Later that night it was confirmed via Twitter that Liam’s close friend Andy Samuels was being treated for 20% burns to his hands and face, and the hashtag pray4andy was quickly a trending topic.

Andy’s girlfriend Daisie Smith also took to social network to update fans on his condition, saying “Thank you so much for all of your lovely messages & prayers. On behalf of Andy’s family I we’d like you to know he is in a stable condition”

The fire was allegedly caused by a friend attempting to fill up the gas for an outside heater, but there was a problem and the heater is said to have exploded, taking the balcony up in flames with it. This friend is presumed to be Samuels.

Six fire engines containing 35 firefighters were called to the Docklands flat, which is reportedly worth £2million, around 9.48pm according to the online incident report, alongside paramedics.

The cause of the fire, which has apparently destroyed 80% of Payne’s balcony, is now under further investigation.

Rumours suggest Payne’s girlfriend Sophia Smith may have been present, but the other four members of One Direction are confirmed to have been elsewhere.

In an almost tragic irony, Liam was seen in the Morgan Spurlock documentary This Is Us, currently in cinemas, discussing how he would be a firefighter had he not been a part of One Direction, as he liked the idea of saving people.

The thoughts of everyone here at PopWrapped are with Liam, Andy and all others affected by this terrifying incident.
