For fans of the Marvel franchise Thor, it is quite hard now to see anyone but British actor Tom Hiddleston as the beloved villain Loki. As much as the actor is now fond and thankful for the role of the fan favorite trickster god, Loki, as it turns out, was not the British thespian's first choice to play. The actor stopped by Chelsea Handler's chatshow earlier this week to promote the latest Thor film. The talk show host brought up that she had read in the past that he actually had tried out for the titular role. "I initially auditioned to play Thor. That was what I was being considered for, because I’m tall and blonde and classically trained, and that seemed to be the mold for what Thor was, he was to be a classical character. And it was in my auditions. I owe this entirely to Marvel and their open-mindedness, they saw something that they thought was interesting. They saw some temperament that they liked," Hiddleston explained to Collider three years ago when he was promoting Thor.  Hiddleston had more to say about this when he sat down with Handler. He shared with the talk show host that he even put on 18lbs .The casting director gave Hiddleston six weeks to bulk up, so he went on a strict diet and gained twenty pounds of muscle, quite a feat for the 6'2 classically trained actor. The role eventually went to Chris Hemsworth, which turned out for the best in Hiddleston's eyes as he landed the role of the eventual antagonist of the series. "They were always looking for Loki as well, and I think - the closer I got, they were like, 'Actually, you should play the bad guy'," Hiddleston said. Check out Hiddleston's interview with Handler below: [youtube=] Thor: The Dark World will be in theaters on Friday, November 8 in the US.  Hiddleston, in the meantime, will be gearing up for his next project as he will be hitting the West End’s stage as the lead in Donmar Warehouse’s production of William Shakespeare’s tragedy, Coriolanus
