Having first made her mark on the music world with debut album ‘Heroine’ in 2013, Lorde has long since established herself as one of the most talented artists of the modern age, as well as one of the most respected and admired by critics and fans alike. To date, she has racked up more than 10 billion streams and sold over 12 million albums.
This week, she dropped new single “Solar Power”, a teaser as to what to expect from her new, third and hotly anticipated album of the same name that will drop on August 20th, and which has already been rated 5 stars by the likes of NME, The Independent and Pitchfork. The album consists of 12 tracks and was produced by Jack Antonoff, who also collaborated with Lorde on her previous, and chart-topping album ‘Melodrama.’
She’s also announced a world tour – scores of shows are already sold out after going on sale today – which will kick off in her home country of New Zealand, then see her perform in Australia and North America after she which she’ll head to the UK for a six-date run before continuing the tour with gigs across Europe.
Of the single, Lorde says: “It’s about that infectious, flirtatious summer energy that takes hold of us all, come June…”and she adds that the album is: “…a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalizing the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors. In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learned to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through.”
