Earlier today ‘Royals’ songstress, Kiwi teenager Lorde (real name Ella Yelich-O’Connor) unhorsed Miley from the top of the iTunes charts. Lorde’s debut single ‘Royals’ has taken the top spot from Miley Cyrus’ ‘Wrecking Ball’, thus essentially putting ‘Wrecking Ball’ in second place. Lorde tweeted her excitement earlier: wo #1 on US itunes. Even if it lasts an hour I feel HAPPY. Downside is all these miley fans telling me they’re gonna stab my rotting corpse. Miley is a lot more accepting than her fans, evidently. A few of the former Disney star’s fans, Smilers, have taken to tweeting abuse at the New Zealand singer. Lorde than retweeted without deigning to respond. Miley however responded to the backlash in a tweet to Lorde: @lordemusic why r people so mean??? Ps your music is awesome If the ‘We Can’t Stop’ singer is able to be a good sport, surely her ‘Smilers’ can too. Being horrid to other artists won’t one any more of a fan. If anything Miley’s tweet has just distanced herself from the sentiment of such fans who take it upon themselves to flame another artist enjoying success. At the moment ‘Royals’ continues to sit at number three on the US Billboard charts, whilst continuing to lead the Alternative Music charts for the sixth week in a row- a record for any female singer on the Alternative charts. Lorde’s album, Pure Heroine, will be out by the end of September.
