Magic Cards Worth Thousands Stolen In Austin, Texas

Nearly $80,000 worth of Magic: The Gathering cards were stolen from Pat’s Games in Austin, Texas. Police are on the case, but have yet to find anything.

In the still small hours of an Austin, Texas Sunday, approximately $75,000 worth of Magic: The Gathering cards were stolen from Pat’s Games. The store prides itself as being the premiere store for Magic: The Gathering.

According to the store owner, the heist took place around 1am with nearly 200 cards stolen. Some of these cards were quite valuable, reaching approximately $5,000 in value.

After breaking into the store (using a water meter key, of all things), the thieves only needed 20 seconds to clean house and haul ass.

While local authorities are on the case, even going so far as to assign a Magic playing staff member to the case, they have yet to arrive at any leads.

Pat’s Games shared the break-in video on their Facebook page and gave proper “kudos” to the Austin Police Department for their thoroughness.

From what we can see on the video, these thieves are not particularly bright, although they do make a habit of not looking into the camera. It takes them a pretty long time to break the door open.

Even if they were able to get a few dozen of the cards sold before news of the break-in hit social media, fans and customers are pretty sure store owners and online buyers are going to be extra vigilant about buying new product for a while.

Fans of the store as far as New York have sent their good wishes to Pat’s and hope the culprits are caught and brought to justice.

So how much jail time does someone get for stealing nearly $80K in playing cards?
