A good Samaritan rescued a 15-month-old baby girl that he saw crawling along the side of a Georgia highway on Friday (June 13).

Bryant Collins said he saw her out of the corner of his eye and decided to investigate, thinking that it looked like a child.

“I just stopped and, when I got out, there was a baby…almost in the highway,” he explained. Collins picked her up and then called 911.

The child crawled through the woods and ended up near the highway, 300 yards from her house. Collins stayed with her for nearly two hours and when she started to cry, he played some music on his phone to keep her calm.

“The baby started crying, so I turned my phone on and let her listen to some gospel music, and she calmed right down,” he said.

Madison County sheriff Kip Thomas saw the entire situation as a miracle. “Everything was pretty much superficial that we saw. Honestly that’s almost a miracle: that a 15-month-old can go that far from her house, into the woods, fall down an embankment, wind up near a major highway, and really not get hurt that bad,” he said.

The baby’s father, Timothy Pickens, was arrested and her mother may eventually be arrested, too.

“I did ten years in the federal institution for manufacturing cocaine. When I was in prison, I made a very conscientious effort to change, and I did,” Collins revealed. He’s turned his life around since then, being drug-free for five years and working now as a mechanic.

Just goes to show that it’s never too late to turn your life around.
