Legend Of Zelda, Animal Crossing, And More Coming To Mario Kart 8 As DLC

Nintendo has some epic crossovers coming in Mario Kart 8, with the addition of characters from Legend Of Zelda and Animal Crossing as downloadable content.

Nintendo fans around the world have had a storm of new reveals this past week to keep them pumped. Following the epic Super Smash Bros. leak, we’ve had ourselves our first glimpse at the arcade game, Pokken Fighter, which mashes the Pokemon and Tekken franchises into one singular thing.

Now? We have ourselves something potentially even cooler to cheer for!

For the first time in the history of the entire franchise, Mario Kart will be adding the presence of other Nintendo franchises such as The Legend of Zelda to its trademark racing series.

In a slideshow trailer courtesy of Gamexplain, you can see that Link, in his Skyward Sword getup, is now playable alongside Animal Crossing’s Villager and Isabelle.

To top it all off? It looks like we’re taking things way back to an SNES F-Zero, Mute City-inspired course, as well as an Excitebike one!

All of these goodies aren’t coming at once, however. They’re split into two packs, with the first coming November 2014, and the next coming on May 2015. Details from Nintendo’s UK site have been divulged and you can read ’em up for yourself below:

Each Add On Content pack will contain two new cups, each with four courses, which, in total, increases the number of available courses by 50 percent. The Add On Content packs include classics like Wario’s Gold Mine from Mario Kart Wii, as well as new courses, some taking place in the worlds of The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing. New vehicles will also arrive with each pack, including the Blue Falcon kart representing the F-Zero franchise in the first AOC pack.

  • 3 Characters: Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, Link
  • 4 Vehicles
  • 8 Courses

Mario Kart 8 Pack 2 – Released: May 2015

Pack 2 includes:

  • 3 Characters: Villager, Isabelle, Dry Bowser
  • 4 Vehicles
  • 8 Courses

As a bonus for purchasing both packs – as a bundle or separately – you can get eight different-coloured Yoshis and eight different-coloured Shy Guys that can be used right away.

Does this mean we’ll see Captain Falcon and Excitebiker hitting the karting world in the future? After all, the former’s Blue Falcon is becoming a kart, too!

What about a Zelda-based course to match the existing Animal Crossing one? Better yet, what do you think of the current incoming DLC, and what DLC are you looking forward to for Mario Kart 8  in the future?
