Japanese Nintendo fans have tons to be excited about as one of the company’s top-selling brands gained another entry out on shelves yesterday across eastern waters.  That’s right – Mario Kart 8 is now out in Japan, and a whole day earlier than it is for everyone else, those lucky ducks!

Aside from the general fanfare surrounding such a momentous release for Nintendo’s trademark plumber and his colorful cast of friends and the killer reviews that have come along with it, some rather cheeky downloadable content has just been unveiled for the title as well. It comes in the form of a Mercedes GLA kart currently announced just for Japanese Mario Kart fans, and it’s coming free to them this summer.

Sure, it’s effectively nothing but a neat advert for Mercedes down in the Land of the Rising Sun, but how cool and unexpected is it – especially with the crazy trailer provided for its reveal!? “Sexy” Mario makes his debut here, folks. It’s worth taking a look.

In response to an inquiry from Eurogamer, Nintendo of Europe has issued a statement regarding the DLC being released across western shores that reads as such:

“The announcement this time was made by Mercedes-Benz Japan regarding their collaboration in Japan with NCL…  As for the information relating to the distribution of the GLA kart for MK8 outside Japan, we will be able to announce in the near future.”

To me, it certainly sounds like it’s on its way to the West! The idea of continued DLC is especially intriguing, especially if it involves resurrecting characters who should’ve never left the raceway in the first place, like Diddy Kong, Bowser Jr., and King Boo.
