Earlier this month, Deadline reported that Disney has ordered two untitled films from Marvel Studios that will be released on May 6, 2016 and May 5, 2017.
In addition, Newsarama has also released information that now Disney ordered a third untitled film from the House of Ideas that will be released on July 8, 2016.
Could any of these films star Doctor Strange?
Several fan sites including Comic Book Movie have speculated that Marvel’s most magical crime fighter may be coming to the Silver Screen soon.
A source, which wished to remain anonymous, spoke directly to Comic Book Movie stated, “Strange is being groomed to be the next Iron Man. The studio needs a new ‘hub’ character going into Phase 3 and beyond, as there is audience fatigue, aging stars and a need to move from Tony Stark/Iron Man as a ‘hub’ for films.”
Earlier this month, Marvel Studios announced that Robert Downey, Jr. signed contracts to reprise his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man for both Avengers 2 and Avengers 3.
Comic Book Movie also reported that the Master of the Mystic Arts could bounce between dimensions and also receive a similar contract like Samuel L. Jackson, who agreed to appear in
Marvel intends to release details on these releases, as well as a third untitled film that will be open on May 5, 2017, at next month’s Comic-Con, reports Collider.
Next year marks the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4). The galactic film Guardians of the Galaxy, which will be directed by James Gunn in August 2014.
Joss Whedon’s highly anticipated Avengers sequel has a goal release date of May 1, 2015. Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man will represent the fall movie season with a release date of November 6, 2015.
