Marvel Announces Who Will Play Their Next Spider-Man

Spider-Man is back! Marvel have finally announced who will be your brand new Peter Parker, and the results may surprise you.

Finally! After much deliberation between Sony and Marvel Studios, we finally have a brand new Peter Parker.

Who is it, you ask? It’s England’s very own Tom Holland!

Marvel made the announcement today on their official website, citing the 18-year old will be the webslinger in the brand new Spider-Man film set to launch in 2017, to be directed by Cop Car director Jon Watts.

Holland’s star is certainly on the rise with notable performances in Wolf Hall and The Impossible, and succeeded in catching the role in his web after a series of complex screen tests.

Tom Rothman, Sony Pictures Group Chairman says:

It’s a big day here at Sony. Kevin, Amy and their teams have done an incredible job. The Marvel process is very thorough, and that’s why their results are so outstanding. I’m confident Spider-Man will be no exception. I’ve worked with a number of up-and-coming directors who have gone on to be superstars and believe that Jon is just such an outstanding talent. For Spidey himself, we saw many terrific young actors, but Tom’s screen tests were special. All in all, we are off to a roaring start.

Marvel head Kevin Feige added, “As with James Gunn, Joss Whedon, and the Russo brothers, we love finding new and exciting voices to bring these characters to life. We spent a lot of time with Jon and find his take and work inspiring.”

So that’s it! After a seemingly never-ending search, the next Spider-Man has finally been announced and we’ll see him first in 2017.

No word on the much-rumoured appearance of Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, due next year, however. We’ll keep a whether eye on that one.
