Goddess Of Thunder: Marvel Gives Fans A Sneak Peek Of The Female Thor

It’s been talked about for months, but finally Marvel has released a comic book cover starring none other than the female Thor.

A wave of change was to come in Marvel’s upcoming Thor issues, as announced over the summer, and the first one of them seems to have hit the shore. It was previously revealed that the next star of the comic books to take the hammer was going to be a woman, but it remained unexpected to this day. However, it is now official, as we have been given a sneak peek of the first issue with female Thor (cover seen above).

The story goes on with the God of Thunder being unworthy of holding the hammer any longer, so it’s passed on to the new, female leader. That exact scene is previewed in the pages from the first issue revealed by Marvel. The writer, Jason Aaron, stated of female Thor:

“This was all my idea, this is where it’s been headed for the past couple of years. People always ask was it different writing a female lead character? I always think that’s a strange question. I’m writing a god, so it’s not like I have to suddenly stop and change everything I do because it’s a female lead. It’s the same Thor story I’ve been doing. The hero will be different. But it’s still, at the heart, a Thor story.”

It was implied that the powers of this new Goddess will be quite different. At the same time, the writer revealed he wanted the old one to give up the hammer for a while himself, so there’s a natural sequence of events. The universe-saving hero no longer felt worthy of carrying his well-known hammer, so he left it to be picked up by another hero and that one only happens to be a woman.
