Marvel Wants Women On Both Sides Of The Cameras | marvel
Marvel's Executive Vice President of Visual Effects and Post Production, Victoria Alonso, was present at the Visual Effects Society Production Summit which took place on Saturday. While at the event, the lady took the chance and spoke up about women in the company. Alonso started with thanking the man-filled audience for letting a woman talk to them so early in the morning. She continued talking about how her experiance tells that women are needed in the workplace, highlighting their smartness, talent and ability to bring a balance. She also referred to the difficult choice between career or family, saying:
"This a tough road for women, not because it is a world of men, but because it takes a certain amount of time to be in a supervisory position, and by that time you are having to make a decision about having children or not. Which means you have to take a break. If you take a break, you’re out of the game, and once you’re out of the game, it’s hard to get back in the game. She said once women decide to have children, about half don’t come back to the business. “So we’re back to trying to fill in the 50% that left. We’re consistently trying to fill that gap of women who leave."
With the buzz going crazy about female superhero movies, including rumors of Black Widow and Captain Marvel, she even called for one. Alonso stated about Marvel delivering one "If it were up to me, it would be today". Other topics raised were DC's Wonder Woman and the rivalry between the two companies, as well as her admiration for Kathy Kennedy.
