Matt Bomer is currently gracing the cover of the January/February issue of Men's Fitness. Aside from revealing his incredibly fit physique, the 38-year-old actor discussed numerous topics, from fitness to his working relationship with American Horror Story: Hotel co-star Lady Gaga.
When talking about fitness, the former Glee and Magic Mike: XXL star credited his diet for keeping him in shape. Bomer said that he "didn't feel healthy" in his 20s, because he "just wasn't taking care of [his] body". Now, the actor watches his diet, and ensures he carefully adjusts it depending on the role. He even turned down a greasy lunch, saying that he had a nude scene the next day.
His current role is that of a drug addict turned vampire, whose lover is the 115-year-old vampire known as the Countess, played by Lady Gaga, on American Horror Story: Hotel. Bomer revealed that when he first read the script his initial reaction was "holy shit, what the fuck is this? This is crazy!" After taking a few deep breaths, he decided to "commit to this world" and took on the role.
One perk of the job is working with Lady Gaga. Bomer gushed about working with the singer/actress to Men's Fitness, saying:
My favourite thing about working with Lady Gaga is really just the sheer level of creativity she brings to the table. And she's really one of the most intelligent people I've ever known. Her intelligence is equaled by her heart.
Bomber also spoke about some meaningful advice Lady Gaga gave him:
She said a lot of creating a name and a place for yourself in this business is just having the heart to stay in the game. A lot of it is learning how to get up and dust yourself off and stand up against adversity or whoever may be an obstacle for you and having the heart to stay open as an artist and creative as an artist.
Bomer has discussed his off-screen friendship with the pop star before, telling The Hollywood Reporter that she's "not only a brilliant actress but also very relatable". He acknowledged that Lady Gaga had massive star power, and could easily have remained an intimidating figure, but instead she made herself approachable and "by the time the cameras were rolling [he] was able to relate to her as a friend".
